Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women, proudly announces the appointment of Josie Nepinak as President of the Board of Directors, effective August 17, 2023.
Josie Nepinak is a proud Anishinabe woman from Treaty Four. She believes in a balanced approach in teaching Indigenous wisdom and healing in combination with contemporary western methodologies to promote the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals, families, and communities.
Her extensive background includes over 30 years in executive leadership roles, steeped in complex social issues, working with Indigenous organizations, and advocating for Indigenous women and families affected by family violence. Josie has a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies, along with ongoing professional development in management. She chaired the Calgary Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Committee and is affiliated with numerous national and provincial boards and councils.
