Employment Training Program
Building skills, confidence, and career readiness.

Launching in 2026, Esquao’s Employment Training Program will connect Indigenous women across Alberta with practical training opportunities that strengthen skills, confidence, career readiness, and industry knowledge. The program is designed to help participants move toward employment by creating accessible pathways into a range of fields.

Training opportunities include hands-on instruction in welding, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics; online Early Learning and Childcare training toward ELCC Level 1 certification; professional driving preparation for a Class 3 licence, air brakes, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and related requirements; housing and shelter support training; and opportunities to explore careers in emergency services.

Participant supports may include tuition, materials, personal protective equipment, technology, travel, and accommodation to help reduce barriers to participation. The program is funded by the Government of Alberta.

 

Job Entry Program
Helping Indigenous Women Enter the Workforce

The Job Entry Program, also known as the Esquao Employment Assistance Program, provides personalized support for Indigenous women who are preparing to enter or re-enter the workforce. An Esquao Job Entry Navigator works one-on-one with each participant to understand her goals, strengths, needs, and barriers.

Each participant receives an individualized plan that may include access to training and skill-enhancement programs, participation in inspirational events, and opportunities to deepen cultural knowledge. The goal is to provide practical, tailored support that helps women build confidence and move toward meaningful employment.

The Job Entry Program is funded by the Government of Alberta.

 

Community Connections Program
Pathways to Employment Opportunities

The Community Connections Program connects Indigenous youth, women, families, and community members with opportunities for education, training, employment, networking, and personal growth. Through initiatives such as the Youth Employment Conference, IgniteIndigenous, College Days, Career Fairs, Community Visits, and Networking Events, participants can explore new possibilities and build relationships that support their goals.

The program also creates meaningful connections with employers, post-secondary institutions, industry leaders, and community partners. These relationships can provide access to valuable resources, mentorship, and career pathways while helping participants build confidence, expand their opportunities, and work toward long-term success.

The Community Connections Program supports Indigenous individuals and communities across Alberta and is funded by the Government of Alberta.

 

Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Program
Training. Education. Meaningful Employment.

Esquao’s Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Program supports Indigenous women in building their skills through training and education, with the goal of securing meaningful employment. The program offers flexible supports that can respond to a participant’s individual employment and training goals.

Available services include individual training purchases, self-employment benefits, group training, special projects, and on-the-job training opportunities. These supports are intended to help participants gain practical experience, strengthen employability, and move toward sustainable employment.

The ISET Program is available to First Nation, Métis, Inuit, urban, and non-affiliated Indigenous women across Alberta who are 15 years of age and older. The program is funded through the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
