Program Coordinator – Financial Literacy/Food Security
Reports to: Director of Programs
Location: Edmonton
Salary Range: Based on experience & FT / PT
Closing Date: December 21, 2025
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator will support the skill and knowledge development of Indigenous women, young women, and gender-diverse individuals. Working out of the Edmonton office, the coordinator will collaborate closely with multiple partner agencies. Responsibilities include attending inter-agency meetings, participating in joint training opportunities, and contributing to shared data collection and evaluation initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Social Services, Nutrition or Public Health
- Extensive experience in financial planning, including career and income planning.
- Experience addressing, supporting, and educating around nutritional needs and food-security challenges faced by Aboriginal/Indigenous families.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in development, facilitation coordination of program training and workshops
- In-depth understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, and organizations.
- Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of a clear Criminal Records Check.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Language: Fluency in English is essential. Bilingualism in an Indigenous language is a strong asset.
- Citizenship: Canadian citizen or permanent resident (eligible to work in Canada)
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of and commitment to the principles and values that guide the work of Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.
- Strong understanding of issues related to improving the lives of Indigenous women and their families.
- Strong understanding of food security frameworks, nutrition principles, and livelihood strategies.
- Knowledge of community-based programming, and resilience-building practices.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and community engagement abilities.
- Proficiency in data collection tools and monitoring & evaluation methods.
- Superior communication skills, including strong interpersonal, written, and verbal abilities when working with diverse groups, communities, and individuals.
- Skilled facilitator with demonstrated liaison and networking expertise.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment; strong organizational skills.
- Thorough understanding of how to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and adaptability in response to shifting tasks and priorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and online communication tools.
Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:
Financial Independence Training
- Promote IAAW and the Financial Independence Training Program to Indigenous women and to the broader public.
- Facilitate small-group financial literacy sessions for Indigenous women and youth using established curriculum and provided tools.
- Provide individualized support to program participants in a culturally safe, trauma-informed manner.
- Research and stay current on poverty-reduction initiatives, financial-literacy resources, and relevant educational opportunities.
- Maintain an organized office space and filing system.
- Manage all participant files, documentation, and correspondence securely and confidentially.
- Be willing to travel and work outside regular business hours when required.
- Complete all reports, data submissions, and documentation as needed.
- Attend meetings with funders, partners, and supportive organizations to strengthen collaborative relationships.
- Assist other team members by sharing financial-literacy information and resources.
Food Security Program
- Plan, coordinate, and implement projects that improve food access, nutrition, and resilience within IAAW target communities
- Lead the development, coordination, and execution of food security initiatives, including food distribution and nutrition education.
- Ensure program activities follow established work plans, budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Conduct needs assessments and baseline surveys to guide program design and targeting.
- Coordinate procurement and distribution of food items and nutritional supplies.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on food security indicators.
- Prepare timely program reports for internal use, donors, and partners.
- Support evaluations and contribute to program learning and adaptation.
- Facilitate community meetings, training sessions, and workshops on food security, nutrition, and food preparation.
- Represent the organization in food security at stakeholder forums.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
