Women’s Empowerment Program Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the leadership pf the Director of Programs, the Women’s Empowerment Program to increase economic independence and leadership among Indigenous women through entrepreneurship development, exposure to Indigenous women business leaders, financial literacy, and access to opportunities to increase incomes.

 

Key responsibilities include:

Key Activities

  • Entrepreneurship Development
    • Deliver business planning workshops (in-person & virtual)
    • Host an Indigenous Women’s Business Pitch Event
  • Exposure to Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs
    • Host speaker series featuring successful Indigenous women entrepreneurs
    • Organize panels and Q&A sessions
    • Share case studies and success stories in workshops and online platform
  • Financial Literacy, Food Security & Access to Capital
    • Financial literacy workshops (budgeting, credit, taxes)
    • Connect participants to Indigenous business/entrepreneurship funding programs
    • Offer credit-building, access to business supports
    • Increased skill development on creating a budget, how to make your food dollar stretch and eating healthy.
  • Mentorship & Market Access
    • Host quarterly networking events
    • Organize a final Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs Networking opportunity
    • Facilitate connections with procurement opportunities
  • Establish forums and networks for Aboriginal women to exchange information and experiences.
  • Assist program participants in developing personal action plans, accessing resources, and overcoming barriers.
  • Build collaborative relationships with other Esquao coordinators to increase benefits to participants.
  • Communicate best practices and areas for improvement as often as necessary to continuously improve the program content.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience in program coordination, business development, community engagement, women’s empowerment initiatives, and nonprofit administration.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and awareness of available community resources.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge and commitment to the principles and values that guide the work of Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.
  • Knowledge of the First Nation, Metis, and Inuit community in Alberta with an understanding of Indigenous culture, issues and protocol.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with trauma-informed policies.
  • Experienced in trauma-informed service delivery, fostering independence and confidence when working with young/women rebuilding their lives.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License. Must have reliable vehicle and can travel on occasion.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of clear Criminal Records Check.
