Employment Training Services Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Programs
Location: Edmonton
Salary Range:  based on experience & FT/PT

Position Summary

The Employment Training Services Coordinator will oversee the design, delivery, and coordination of the Esquao Training Services project.

This includes planning and organizing training sessions in collaboration with post-secondary and industry partners, coordinating logistics, supporting trainers, and maintaining partnerships with employers and Indigenous communities across Alberta.

The Coordinator will ensure that all project activities are culturally responsive, aligned with IAAW’s values, and meet the goals of the Employment Partnerships Program.

 

Reporting to the Director of Programs, key responsibilities include:

Program Planning & Coordination:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of training programs in identified sectors
  • Coordinate logistics for in-person and community-based training delivery, including venues, materials, schedules, and facilitators.
  • Collaborate with post-secondary partners and trainers to align programming with industry standards
  • Ensure integration of Elder and Knowledge Keeper participation in training delivery and ceremonies.

Partnership Development:

  • Strengthen partnerships with Indigenous communities, employers, and training institutions
  • Facilitate communication between IAAW and partner organizations
  • Identify and develop new training and employment partnerships aligned with labour market needs

Program Promotion & Partnership Development:

  • Develop and implement an annual ISET Work Plan to expand employer and institutional partnerships.
  • Engage regional employers, not-for-profits, and training institutions.
  • Promote the ISET program via schools, career fairs, community events, and Indigenous organizations.

Cultural Responsiveness & Community Engagement:

  • Engage Elders and Knowledge Keepers in planning and delivering program components
  • Ensure all training environments are culturally safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive
  • Promote the program to communities and potential participants through outreach and presentations

Financial & Administrative Oversight:

  • Support financial tracking and budget management in collaboration with IAAW leadership
  • Maintain accurate records of training costs, participant data, and partner agreements. Ensure all program activities comply with funder reporting and documentation inquiries.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • Track participant progress, completion rates, and employment outcomes.
  • Gaither data, feedback, and success stories to evaluate program impact
  • Prepare quarterly and final narrative and financial reports for funder

Event & Logistics Management:

  • Coordinate opening and closing ceremonies, Elder protocols, and community events
  • Organize training orientations, workshops, and recognition gatherings
  • Manage communication with trainers, employers, and service providers to ensure seamless program delivery

 

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Project Management, Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience coordinating employment, training, or community programs
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, community protocols, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Experience collaborating with post-secondary institutions and employers
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles and values that guide the work of Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women.
  • Strong understanding of issues related to improving the lives of Indigenous women and their families.
  • Knowledge of community-based programming, and resilience-building practices.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and community engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in data collection tools and monitoring & evaluation methods.
  • Superior communication skills, including strong interpersonal, written, and verbal abilities when working with diverse groups, communities, and individuals.
  • Skilled facilitator with demonstrated liaison and networking expertise.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment; strong organizational skills.
  • Thorough understanding of how to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to shifting tasks and priorities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and online communication tools.
